nata mission

The North Area Transportation Alliance (NATA) is a partnership of public and private entities in the North Denver metro area working to identify, develop, advocate and lobby at the local, state and federal level for multimodal transportation solutions that will enhance sustainable mobility options and improve transit service, promote economic opportunity to improve quality of life and reduce traffic congestion to safely and equitably move all people in the north metro area.

Geographic Area

NATA serves active member communities generally located south of the Boulder/Larimer County line extended along the US 85/SH2 as the east/southeast border, to US 36/I-270 corridors, to US 287. The geographic area may be expanded to include other major transportation connections that are key to carrying out NATA's mission. See Geographic Area Map.

Membership and governance

  • Voting Members:

    • NATA voting members shall elect a Chair and Vice-Chair to officiate the general membership meetings. The Chair and Vice-Chair shall be authorized to speak on behalf of NATA to communicate the positions approved by NATA with respect to various transportation issues. The Chair and Vice-Chair shall be members of SPC.

    • Each member shall have a representative and alternate, at least one of whom shall be an elected official. All other organizations may have one representative. The term of a voting member is one year.

  • Bylaws: NATA is governed by a set of approved Bylaws. The entire NATA Bylaws and Exhibits can be found here.

  • Strategic Planning Committee (SPC): The SPC is the subcommittee of NATA tasked with setting the monthly NATA agenda and annual strategic plan. This committee meets the third Friday of each month at 8:30 a.m., which is currently being held VIRTUALLY. The following are members of this committee:

    • Chair: Emily Baer, Town of Erie Councilmember

    • Vice-Chair: Justin Martinez, City of Thornton Councilmember

    • Treasurer: James Marsh-Holschen, City & County of Broomfield Councilmember

    • Past Chair: Nancy McNally, City of Westminster Mayor

Adams County, City & County of Broomfield; cities of Brighton, Commerce City, Dacono, Frederick, Erie, Northglenn, Longmont, Thornton, and Westminster; Adams County Economic Development, Inc., and the Metro North Chamber. 

Ex-officio Members

Representatives from the following who are invited to all NATA meetings will be provided full materials and given access to the organization but are not voting members.

  • Staff representatives from Congressional District 2, District 4, District 6, District 7, and District 8

  • Staff representatives from Senator Hickenlooper and Senator Bennet’s office

  • State legislators from the NATA region

  • Agency partners from CDOT, RTD, DRCOG

Smart Commute is a 501c3 nonprofit who's mission is to inform and serve local communities and businesses by advocating for better transportation options and enhanced mobility for the north metro region.
